We'll be back in a week!
For now we have a trek to the bus station and then a stop in Torrelavega and another 4 hours to Barajas airport. The overnight will be at our home base hotel in Barajas- Best Western Barajas.
Funny incident:
At the bus station a man asked me something in Enlgishnand I answered in Spanish before I caught myself and said something like, "oh, English. I forgot that I speak that!!" We laughed. Turns out he just completed his Camino along this route and is returning to Ireland. We got to talking and mentioning that we were going to teach English for a week. He laughed and said he had heard about a couple on bicycles who were going to do that. Had to be us!! He was t the very same Vaughntown location in the winter. He said it was a lot of fun but yes indeed, a lot of talking. And some singing and dancing . Oy vey! Me???
Oh well. Nothing to lose, right?
Some lessons learned
1.take less stuff- this always is the case
2. Rent bikes - a lot less schlepping
3.should have done Vaughtown at the beginning or the end. Would have avoided the back and forth bus trips.
4. For the Camino State of Mind: WALK
5. Use a SIM card instead of Spanish flip phone.
And an addendum to the day.
We feel like we're home! The hotel in Barajas is so familiar to us and the staff know us! After settling in (for the night) we went out for some food and beverage and ended up sitting next to a young couple from Kansas City on their honeymoon. Chatting about where we've been, etc. it turns out that they were in San Sebastián and had dinner at Arzac which is the restaurant Matt recommended. We got a tour of their dinner via photos - they had the tasting menu. We're so lucky to have our own chef of that caliber in our family.
Great food at 13Martes right across the street. Craig had the "best hamburger ever." I had an interesting salad with pineapple, balsamic, shrimp.
