While at the airport yesterday we bought bus tickets to San Sebastián. 100 EU for both of us on the Special ALSA bus. The shuttle from the hotel dropped us off at Terminal 4 and at 8:15 we boarded. It's a 5 1/2 hour ride. We're enjoying the bus as opposed to the train. Very smooth and comfortable and we get to see the countryside.
Looks like a lot, eh? It'll be so much easier when we're riding. We'll call this the before picture.
Abundance is the word that enters the picture today. We'll see where it takes us.
"Premium bus" is working out well. Breakfast has just been served. Now sipping cafe con le he and listening to Aaron Neville as well as Tennessee's music on my phone. Sun shining in.
Judy Collins singing Amazing Grace. The power to transform. Seeing familiar sites: the modern day windmills. The towns with church spires on the hill. Poppies. Vineyards. We're getting close to the Camino de Santiago by the meseta region.
We had news from home today that Sam Bradley died. He's been such an Olympia icon. We had the opportunity to meet him early this Spring at a dinner gathering and he also took our iPad/iPhone class. His spirit remained strong and compassionate as his body failed. The Olympia therapy community will grieve and honor together.
We are never far away.
The thought comes: we must take our time. It's always about time. Various ways to interpret this.
We strolled the town, walked on the beach and wandered the Old Quarter. A World Class puppet show was supposed to happen in Constitution Square so we had some wine and beer and bad tapas waiting for the show to begin. Oh my! I could have performed better so that tells you how it was.
Around 6 or 7 the pedestrian streets were filled with people standing at bars eating tapas or pinxtos as they are called in Basque. We were ready for dinner about 8:30 and when we went to one recommended place they said they were full until 11:45! The night life in Europe in general is lively; Spain latest of all. This presents problems we found out last time as Spaniards maintain their traditional ways and navigate the modern time table of life. Once we are on Camino time, it will change for us.
Performance of Basque music. Note: everyone here grows up bi-lingual, speaking Basque and Castillian Spanish, probably French too.
White asparagus for dinner and clams for me; steak for Craig.
We're aching to get riding and a little anxious about how it will be. Can we do this?
Off to Bilbao tomorrow on the bus. One hour trip. From there we expect to ride.
